Plain-English privacy

opts.org uses two measurement layers. Substack subscriptions and shop checkout happen on independent services. The main site measures reach and link actions for editorial decisions.

Google Analytics

This site uses consent-based Google Analytics. It loads only if analytics consent is given in your browser. Advertising storage, Google signals, ad personalization, and ad-user data are disabled.

When consented, this measurement includes page views and events for outbound actions such as opening an article, visiting Facebook, entering shop pages, subscribing, visiting a project page, or rating a Dictionary entry. Google Analytics may set _ga cookies that can remain for up to 14 months unless they are deleted sooner.

opts.org does not display third-party advertising and does not send data for remarketing or personalized advertising.

Cloudflare Web Analytics remains active for high-level traffic trends without cookies. It does not create user profiles or build a personal audience map.

First-party totals

The site keeps only anonymous aggregate counters for outbound actions. We do not store names, emails, profile IDs, or full session paths.

Dictionary reactions use a random identifier saved in your browser so one browser has one current “Juicy” or “Toss It” reaction per entry. The server stores only a one-way keyed version of that identifier with the selected reaction. It does not store your name, email address, or raw IP address for Dictionary voting.

Where external services begin

Reading or subscribing on Substack, interacting on Facebook, and shopping at shop.opts.org moves you to those independent services. Their privacy and transaction policies apply there.
